Dear Friends
We are delighted to announce our fourth concert of the 2022 season, Into the Light, a varied, truly spine-tingling and atmospheric programme of shorter unaccompanied music from both classical and internationally renowned contemporary composers.
Olivia has themed the programme around the summer sky, light and stars, and this beautiful collection of pieces takes the listener on a journey from night time into daytime. We hope that this will not only be a delight to the ears but uplifting for the soul, with some crunchy harmonies and varied melodies. Notably there are two pieces (not mentioned on the poster) by Palestrina and Praetorius featuring just our tenors and basses, with their warm and rich sound, and another featuring only the sopranos – a chance to appreciate fully their roles in the SATB line-up! I’ve also updated the website with some further information (gleaned from Wikipedia) about the composers. Their dates range from 1526 to the present day – so it’s a history lesson too.

We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Ian Miles as our new Accompanist, starting in September. Ian lived in Oxfordshire until 2018 when he moved to West Sussex. He has been a respected community and church pianist and organist for many years supporting a wide range of events and choirs. Ian also offers language/phonetic coaching to vocalists. We warmly welcome him to the Choir and wish Elizabeth Burtenshaw a very happy retirement with much gratitude.

I’m very keen to publicise titbits about the Choir and its history as well as its current status, so if you have memories from concerts past, anecdotes or other stories you’d like to share, do drop me a line!
Talking of gossip, don't forget to tell everyone about this concert - it will be an evening to remember.

I thought it would be interesting to ask members of the Choir what they enjoy doing when not singing for Horsham Chamber Choir.
Mark Browse, a Bass/Baritone, is currently sailing with friends round the coast of Britain in a yacht called Goldfinch, returning every few weeks for work and music. You can read about the considerable ups and downs of his life on the ocean wave here.
Our Soprano, Sarah Russell, is a garden and planting designer running her own business, Pots and Pansies. Having done a lot of Pansies she has recently turned her considerable skills to throwing and glazing Pots, and has many beautiful mugs, jugs and vessels for sale at local markets. You can see her Facebook page here.
We look forward to seeing you soon, with all good wishes
Jenny Knowles and Horsham Chamber Choir
